Trump’s Swamp

July 11, 2020, By Webmaster

Time to truly drain that swamp.

In an unsurprising, disgusting show of power, Donald Trump commuted the sentence of longtime friend Roger Stone late Friday night.

Stone was convicted of lying under oath during the Mueller investigation, but the White House press secretary claimed Stone would be at serious medical risk in prison.

We should be concerned about the health of our democracy when people can lie to Congress about the extent of another country’s interference in our elections and suffer no consequences.

Among the many things we’ve experienced and endured during the hideous presidency of Trump are the changing definitions of long-accepted words and phrases. Perhaps no phrase has been more misused by this president than the phrase that helped propel him info office, “drain the swamp.”

As it turns out, it seems what Trump actually meant was “fill the swamp.” The list of swampy political characters that have filled Trump’s swamp include his family members, such as Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, and other odious actors, like Attorney General Bill Barr, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, Vice President Smiling Mike Pence, Secretary Ben Carson, Sen. Mitch McConnell, Sen. Lindsey Graham, Congressman Jim Jordan, and a long list of characters to support and enable this president’s lawlessness and recklessness.

The commutation of Stone is just the latest in a series of seemingly never-ending Friday night news dumps. Trump has misused his office’s pardon and commutation powers more egregiously than any president in history. He has used this power not to right wrongs, but to provide cover for his swampy team of enablers and law breakers. To essentially reward Stone for lying to Congress on behalf of Trump is beyond the pale. Well, at least for this week.

Women Organizing Women will work tirelessly to ensure Trump’s swamp in both D.C. and Texas is truly drained on Nov. 3, 2020.
