Vote by Mail

The fight for the right to Vote by Mail (“VBM”) has been a contentious back & forth in Texas this year, particularly in light of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Though WOW Dems unequivocally supports the right for anyone to VBM during this health crisis, we recognize that may never become a possibility while acknowledging we can’t afford to let even one Democratic vote go uncast in 2020. So, please make your plan to vote safely NOW. We encourage you to vote early as that generally means fewer voters present at the same time and in the same place. (Get early voting in Texas info here; for other states, visit USA.gov.)

Vote by Mail Info

Send your ballot as soon as you are able – we’ll tell you how to get started and next steps below!

Eligibility

To be eligible to vote early by mail in Texas, you must:

  • be 65 years or older;
  • be disabled;
  • be out of the county on election day and during the period for early voting by personal appearance; or
  • be confined in jail, but otherwise eligible.

I’m eligible to VBM. Now what?

  1. Print the Application for Ballot by Mail (“ABBM”) form or submit an online order for the form to be mailed to you.
  2. Follow the instructions for completing and submitting the ABBM on the Texas Secretary of State website (the ABBM form itself will also include instructions).
  3. Send the completed ABBM to the Early Voting Clerk in your county. Contact information, including fax numbers if available, and email addresses for the Early Voting Clerks are available on this website. (Please see item #8 on the Texas Secretary of State’s webpage about ABBM for ways you can submit your ABBM and reasons ABBMs may be rejected.)

Military & overseas voters

Military and overseas voters are welcome to use the regular registration and early voting by mail process available to all voters away from their home county on Election Day. However, there are also special provisions for military and overseas voters.

For more information, please read the Early Voting in Texas pamphlet.
