BURCH IS READY TO LEAD Re: “We recommend — Taylor for U.S. House District 3,” Sept. 19 Editorials.
10-21-18 - DMN Letter to the Editor

Voters in the U.S. House District 3 in Texas should clearly know what they are voting for. Van Taylor was designated the worst representative by Texas Monthly because of his tactics that are “overkill… using napalm to get rid of gnats.” He is a known political puppet of the Freedom Caucus, a far-right group that has its foot on the neck of moderate Republicans, seeking unpopular goals like vouchers and bathroom bills rather than common

RECOMMENDATION UNCONVINCING Re: “We recommend – Shaheen for Texas House District 66,” Sept. 29 Editorials.
10-8-18

Re: “We recommend – Shaheen for Texas House District 66,” Sept. 29 Editorials. Your recent recommendation for Matt Shaheen wasn’t convincing at all. It sounds as if you were embarrassed about it. I fully understand why. Sharon Hirsch cares about classrooms; Shaheen worries about bathrooms. Hirsch listens to everyone to learn about different opinions; Shaheen blocks his constituents on Facebook and Twitter for offering an alternative view. You got this one wrong, Dallas Morning News, and I think you know it.

VOTE FOR HIRSCH Re: “We recommend – Shaheen for Texas House District 66,”
9-29-19 - Editorials

I am distressed that you would recommend Matt Shaheen, who spent his time in Austin debating bathrooms while neglecting our public schools and the health and welfare of our citizens. We have a great candidate in Sharon Hirsch, who is a pillar of our community in terms of having worked, volunteered and been a leader in so many areas cultural, educational and charitable.

She founded women’s organizations and scholarship funds, comforted the sick and inspired young girls to seek higher goals. She worked in the schools for 20 years and has the vision to see the importance that an educated public will have on the future of Texas. She is smart, sensible, detail-oriented, knows how to run a business, a budget, an organization.

Hirsch is liked and respected by Republicans and Democrats alike. She reaches out to the experts to help formulate policy and will work to update and modernize the school funding formula. She is a great listener, has empathy and knows what it is like to overcome adversity.

Hirsch is clearly the better candidate to represent our increasingly diverse community in House District 66. She will work hard to improve the lives of her constituents and all Texans.

KNOW WHAT YOU’RE VOTING FOR Re: “We recommend — Taylor for U.S. House District 3”
9-30-18

Voters in U.S. House District 3 should know what they are voting for. Van Taylor moved to Plano after his failed 2OO6 U.S. House run in Waco, hoping for a better chance to win in Collin County. He is a known political puppet of Freedom Caucus — a far-right group that has its foot on the neck of moderate Republicans, seeking unpopular goals like vouchers for private schools and bathroom bills. It’s reported that a large part of his funding comes from Club to Growth — a Koch Brothers PAC that is out of touch with Collin County — and $1 million from himself, the same amount he used to buy a Texas House seat in 2O1O. Taylor was named The Worst Representative by Texas Monthly because of his tactics that are “overkill…using napalm to get rid of gnats.”

Contrast that with Lorie Burch, life-long Collin County resident and Top 1O U.S. businesswoman who accepts no PAC money and whose contributions are fueled by small-dollar donations. Her tireless community work in Collin County has endeared her to many, and she has spent time in Washington working on policy issues, proving she is ready to lead at a national level.

Burch is eager to debate Taylor so we can see who clearly represents Texas’s 3rd U.S. House District.

WHAT ABOUT YOUR DAUGHTERS? 9-23-18

Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, what would you do if your daughter or granddaughter had been attacked and sexually assaulted in high school, but didn’t tell you out of fear or shame, then years later finds out that her attacker is a candidate for a lifetime appointment to a very prestigious government job? Would you believe her? Would you advise her to just forget about it, even though she continues to have issues related to this attack? Or would you advise her to stand up for herself and demand an investigation?

Many women face similar situations daily. It is long overdue for men to stop bullying women and to believe them. All women need to demand that the truth be sought and that it not be swept under the rug again by Republicans.

TAKE A STAND GOP 9-17-18

I read about the op-ed from an unnamed senior official inside the Trump administration and was shocked. Not so much by what was said but that it was said by an individual who indicated belief in the Trump agenda…

After many Trump administration officials publicly denied authoring the piece, the GOP apologists began their defense: Trump is unpredictable, but … he’s getting our agenda through Congress or by executive order. I read that to mean: Any violation of norms or even laws is okay because the end justifies the means. It also exhibits a lack of a moral compass by GOP lawmakers in Congress.

The author, like the GOP apologists, is unwilling to publicly stand up to Trump’s negative impulses. If the situation is as chaotic as portrayed, they should be willing to take a public stand, press their case before Congress and risk being fired. That would be honorable. The “shenanigans” the author portrays suggest a darker motive. Those within the administration who believe they are saving our country were not elected and are no better than the president they may be hoping to remove from office.
